About the farrier

Kristian Rathlou, an honours graduate of the Canadian School of Horseshoeing in Guelph, Ontario, studied under Pat Cullen, a master farrier and frequent consultant to the Guelph Veterinary College. Kris served a rigorous 3-year apprenticeship and honed his skills in the Guelph - Georgetown - Orangeville triangle, and most recently in the counties of Brant, Oxford, Haldimand, and Norfolk.

Passionate about his craft, he has competed in Canada and internationally, earning Division Champion at the Michigan Horseshoers' Association competitions. Kris also competed as a member of the Ontario East team at the 2002 Calgary Stampede farriers' competition. He believes that continuing education is a key to providing quality up-to-date service and participates in seminars and workshops on the latest techniques in horseshoeing and critical hoof care. Able to discuss hoof problems with authority, Kris is comfortable offering options and alternatives for owners to consider.

Kris values the important partnership between owner, veterinarian, and farrier in promoting the health, safety, and enhanced performance of fine horses.
